The Psychic Potential Among Average People: Page 3
Method
Participants
I used a convenient sample of fourteen males and females from the age eighteen to twenty-four on the campus of Central Missouri State University. The participants were questioned in a naturalistic setting in the Houts/Hosey residence hall complex in varying places including lounges and personal residence hall rooms.
Materials
The materials needed for this experiment primarily included myself as a source for generation of psychic energy, my right and left hands as output points for the energy, a blindfold, and a sheet including the pre-generated pattern of energy output and a chart to record the responses of the participants.
Procedure
The participants were asked to take part in a number of trials in a naturalistic setting. The trials themselves were performed by the participants first being given a short set of instructions as to what energy feels like and what to and what not to pay attention to, such as temporary spikes in my personal energy. Then the participants were given a demonstration of what energy feels like by me focusing energy on their dominant hand until they were able to distinguish where exactly the energy was. This way both the researcher and participant were confident that they both knew what the energy felt like. Then the blindfolded participant was asked to place his hands above or below the researcher's hands. Then the participants were given a verbal cue that the energy was present and told to touch the hand that was emanating the most energy. In cases where the participants were not able to distinguish energy from either hand, the trial was repeated. Each participant was taken through a total of ten trials using a predetermined hand on each trial. The participants were not allowed to converse with each other after the trials. After each individual trial, the participant's answers were recorded and at the end of ten trials, they were totaled in two ways.
